Learn to Read Comics spent an afternoon donating materials to a group of eager and enthusiastic students at the Kipp Empowerment Academy located in South Central Los Angeles, California. Students were instructed on the basics of how to read comics, take care of comics and given a treat from a special guest who drew action heroes on screen live and another who read them a short story.
Students also received comic books when they answered trivia questions correctly and all students walked away with at least one comic book to take home. In addition, all 75 students received spiral notebooks, pencils, sharpeners, and the Kipp Empowerment Academy program received over 300 comic books for their library, 25 English and Spanish/English dictionaries and 20 sets of coloring pencils for group based learning and activities.
